3127W. Professional Development and Advocacy in Early Childhood

3.00 credits

Prerequisites: HDFS 2120; ENGL 1007 or 1010 or 1011.

Grading Basis: Graded

Provides foundational knowledge of the historical, philosophical, psychological, and political influences on the field of early childhood. The roles research, politics, and advocacy play in the initiation, implementation, and evaluation of early childhood policy; how social policies impact children and families; and how to engage in advocacy for change. Development of skills and knowledge in reflective practice, ethics, and advocacy with a focus on each student's professional development. Emphasis on advanced written and oral communication skills required for professional careers and graduate studies.
